In May my dad told me he had a surprise for me. His surprise was we were going to Texas to go hog hunting. I was not excited to be going to Texas at all. We were planning on leaving the first week we got out of school for the summer. My uncles, as well as my cousin Riley, were going to be there. Becoming adventurous and trying new things is something I wanted to try. My dad planned this vacation, I assumed it would not be fun, but I was shocked on how much fun I actually had.
Before we left for Texas we had a lot of stuff to pack. We were going to be gone for a week. My dad chose to go hog hunting because neither of us have been hog hunting before. We had to take our guns, clothes, hunting licenses, and many other things that we assumed we might have needed on the trip. My mother made my dad a long checklist because she knew he would forget something. I wasn’t much help when it came to packing and preparing for this trip.

It reached over 100 degrees and was very miserable. After we got to the Dos Plumas Ranch we went to our cabins. The cabins were pretty nice so that made it better. The next morning, we woke up bright and early to start our hunting adventure. At first when we got to our location where we would be sitting I was scared of the rattlesnakes they are known for. Our hunting guide ended up killing 4 that weekend. I slowly started having a lot fun. The next morning, we woke up early again to go back outside. By then I knew what to expect. I really started to enjoy the cool mornings and getting to see all the animals come out in the morning. That same day I shot my first hog.
