Throughout my whole life, preceding my college career, teachers have told me that I need to do homework to succeed in school, quite often they required for large sums of homework to be completed every night. During this point in my life, I spent most of my time completing homework and whatever time I had left was spent studying for my classes. Despite my best efforts and numerous long nights at my desk, I graduated high school as an overall mediocre student. I put so much effort into my homework with little to show for it academically. I worried, when the time came to start college, that this cycle would continue and that it would prevent me from achieving my goals.
After my first few exams at VCU I was happy to discover that this struggle did not proceed. One strong contributing factor that I think has led to my success in college is that I am no longer drowning in homework, this has given me more time to study in a way that works best for me and still have time after to have a life. While I do think that homework can have a positive impact on learning in small doses I strongly believe that piling on assignments in large quantities will not only not benefit a student, but will sometimes even negatively impact the student
