People may believe that nothing comes out of hardship, or that adversity makes one weak. Adversity is a catalyst for growth, innovation and realization of potential. All people throughout their lives experience some form of adversity, but what is significant is the character development that results. When an individual has difficulties, the obstacles are beneficial because they reveal skills that might otherwise remain hidden. Horace’s assertion that adversity develops one's character and brings out talents is extremely valuable because the pressure of the circumstances galvanizes the development of character and hidden skills that would have otherwise lain dormant. Talents can be used in a plethora of ways, and can be discovered or pre-existing but not in use like the famous well known rapper O'Shea Jackson or also known as Ice Cube. Jackson grew up poor, but knew he had an inclination to the arts. Growing up in a challenging environment, Jackson developed a set of hidden skills that helped him adapt and thrive in the entertainment industry. The rapping skills he possessed also helped uncover many other talents that would have otherwise lain dormant like acting and his social and political activism. As he transitioned into the world of film, he was able to play the role of many different characters. His social and political activism was displayed throughout the songs he rapped which revealed a hidden skill in activism. O’Shea Jackson used his platform as a well-known rapper to advocate for change, touching on topics such as economic inequality and police brutality. Jackson demonstrated the power of uncovering talents for growth and impact, even in the face of adversity. Both J.
