The Surge of Population

Population growth has been seen as a growing problem in recent years. People are worrying about this because they are concerned that the population will go beyond the quantity of necessary resources the earth has. Others who do not fear the growth in population, see the good in it. They think that more people will mean more solutions for problems that are faced today. Population growth should be monitored because the more people there is, the more problems there will be (Connaughton and Finley).

The first reason that population growth should be monitored is that it could lead to overcrowding. Overcrowding is a known risk while the world population is rising. This conflict brings threats of disease

The luxuries that people have often result in dangers for plants as well as animals. Human waste pesters the structure for water, soil, and air. Plants can not survive in contaminated soil, and animals can be poisoned by polluted food or water. Underwater species also suffer, “water pumped into the oceans and rivers leads to the death of thousands of fish and other aquatic species”. More people can cause further harm to this trouble (Warhol and Issitt).

Another factor with the growth of population is violence. Violence greatly clashes with the addition of more humans. Violence occurs now because people want or need things that they can not have. With a higher population, there will be more people living without basic necessities. This will lead to more killings, theft, and other wrongdoing. “The larger the population, the more people will suffer from inadequate resources, resulting in greater potential for conflict, violence, and suffering” (Warhol and

Some economists see the benefits in additional people, such as the theory that the increasing population could give answers to difficulties faced with population growth. There are also those that think, “people do not just passively consume resources: they also actively create resources”. This may be true, but nobody is aware if the new population will cause more good than harm. Economists also feel that the main worry for poverty and food shortages is the imbalance of salary. They believe that the breach between wealthy and non-wealthy is the cause of most hardship, not the increase in population. With extra people, this dilemma would only be made worse (Lee and Wagner).

The growth in population should be closely observed and measures should be taken to keep it from soaring because there are many problems caused by it. Violence, overcrowding, and pollution are just a very few of the reasons that the growth of population should be watched. Pollution not only affects the earth, but species like plants and animals. Overcrowding and violence is bad for the new coming population. To prevent further harm to the earth and humanity, countries should limit offspring and increase the use of contraception (Warhol and
