Counterculture affected the 1968 Presidential Election because it came with protests from the younger generation. During the time of the election people now known as "hippies" were actively protesting for anti-war measures against the Vietnam War. With these protests came violence and overall disorder. Nixon took this as an opportunity to be seen as someone who would restore law and order. Many of the candidates focused their attention on the movements to appeal to the public, but in the end, Nixon won the election in 1968.
