Emperor Shi Huangdi of China and Emperor Hadrian of Rome are two leaders who successfully overcome challenges they face both inside and outside of the country, such as rebellions, invasions and attacks from nomadic groups, maintaing power and control etc. In this essay, we will be looking at how they cleverly used armies, tactics, walls, law and trade to maintain power and control of their empires.

One on hand, Emperor Hadrian saw that the soldiers were gambling and drinking, so he had to think of an idea to keep his soldiers busy while defending his empire’s boarders from invaders. He decided to build a wall in 122 A.D running from Wallsend in the east to Bowness on the Solway Firth. It was 15 feet tall and seventy-three miles long. This shows how powerful and rich the empire was. As new discoveries are made on the Hadrian’s Wall, more and more is revealed about the Roman empire. Hence, Hadrian's Wall shows people the ability of the Romans to protect their empire, as well as their engineering and buildings skills.
