In 1901, Thedore Roosevelet became the youngest U.S president. His work make conservation a national issue stands out. Roosevelt created the first national wildfire refuge in 1903 and 1905 he formed the U.S Forest service. 1906,he signed the antiquites act. He prepared to protect the grand canyon in 1908 as a national monument. Gifford Pinchot was friend and trusted advisor to Theodore Roosevelt. In 1900, he founed the society of american foresters. Roosevelt appointed Pinchot as the first chief of the U.S Forest Service.
