It all took place during World War II, one of the most tragic and devastating events that has ever occurred in our world, the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the death and persecution of over six million Jews by the Nazis people. The Nazis were members of the National Socialist Workers Party. It was all under the rule of Adolf Hitler, who advocated a totalitarian government. The Nazis came to power in Germany in January 1933 and the so-called German racial community thought that the Jews were an alien threat to them. Before the Holocaust, there were over nine million Jews in Europe, but after the Holocaust, there were only three million. Jews were held together at different camps so the Nazis would have control. The Nazis had many laws at the camp that separated Jews from society. For example, Jews could no longer wear the yellow star around their neck (this symbolized that they were Jewish). Many tried to hide from the Nazis, but most were unsuccessful. Just like in the camps, if they were ever caught, they would be put to death. The Nazis also made harsh rules for the Jews. They didn’t let them stand or sit in certain places, they would punish them until their body couldn’t handle it anymore and die, and they were to wear a yellow star on their clothing so they would know if they were a Jew or not. They established these rules to show them that they have no place in society and they will never be as powerful as the Nazis. Only a few Jews would even attempt to fight back, but they were out ruled by the Nazis and they didn’t have weapons.
