Ancient Rome is a very interesting time period that has contributed to the world in many ways, especially the United States. Ancient Rome has contributed to the United Stated through government, military, social structure, architecture, religion, education, and entertainment. American citizens I have a lot to thank the Romans for because without them and that era, our lives would not be the same as it is today.
Our government would probably not be anywhere near what it is today if the Romans didn’t come up with the idea of a republican sysetem, the twelve tables, and the idea of being ruled by one leader. The Romans came up with the idea of what we now know as a Roman Republic which is a form of government in which the leader is not a monarch and only certain citizens have the right to vote for the new leader. As you know the way we elect a new leader for our government whether it is a new governor or the president we have to go through the process of voting and that is exactly what the Romans did just a little differently. If you where a Roman citizen the only way you could vote is if you where a male and the age of eighteen or older. Today you can be a male or female but you still have to be at least eighteen. The twelve tables are twelve laws that were set in place that had to be abided by. The twelve tables are just like our constitution. The constitution is a set of laws that every American citizen must follow as they go through their day, if those laws or rules are broken there are consequences depending on what law was broken. The same goes for the twelve tables. An example of this could be that they have a law that, in summary states that everyone is considered equal when in trouble with the law until a decision is made that states otherwise, and we have a law that means that same thing but maybe just a little different as the cultures have changed over
