How Did Rome Influence Western Civilization

There are many things today that we owe to ancient Rome. On multiple accounts we can see that things we do and have today are very similar to things from ancient Rome. Looking back at all of the posters that were presented throughout the class, it is difficult to find one that does not occur and make an impact in our lives today. Most people do not realize that Rome was very creative and was able to come up with various new lifestyles and ways that they do things. The three most prominent examples of how Rome has influenced western Civilization lies in the art, the laws, and in the language/literature. There were many different types of art forms in ancient roman times. The Romans were really involved in making large, lifelike sculptures. They used them mainly for publicly educating people. The sculptures back then have influences many different works of art in this time and different styles of sculpting that might not exist or be as popularly used if the Romans had not used the sculpting styles. The laws that were put together in the Roman times are still rejected upon today. Rome first established standards of justice. Rome brought everyones rights to attention. They knew that someone was innocent until proved guilty. Today, if you are suspected of a crime, there must be proof for there to be any harm done to you and for any jail time to be spent. The fact that someone could be punished for their thoughts seems absurd, however without Roman influence, that could be that case. They believed in pushing someone for what they did, not what their intentions are or if they think something bad. Laws in Rome were based on realism and common sense, they seem normal but they had to be made laws and we still use most of them
