Improving the lives of the urban poor was very important to Progressives, Jane Addams for example, became one of the leading figures involved with settlement houses. Those settlement houses provided social services to the poor, therefore, improved the lives of many poor Americans. In addition to improving living conditions, education was greatly improved. Due to the works of Florence Kelley, child labor was banned through the Keating-Owens Act. Therefore, children were given the opportunity to attend school longer and receive an
