In the early 1900’s, transportation was completely changed for America.. Work on the New York Subway began in 1900. This completely changed the way people went from place to place in their dailiy lives. Also electric cars started to become really popular. In 1901 William McKinley was assassinated. In 1903 the first baseball world series was held. In 1906, a huge earthquake shook San Fransisco, killing over 3,000 people. There were many important people in the 1900’s. In 1901, Theodore Roosevelt became president after president McKinley was assassinated. He ended up dying eight days later of an infection.

Frank L. Baum published his most famous book in 1900; The Wizard of Oz .In 1909, Richard Peary became the first man to reach the North Pole.
