Over 60,000 Canadians were killed on the battlefield in the act of protecting their country and their home. Many explosions took place as a result of this war, one of which was the Halifax Harbour explosion which took the Christmas away from children and their families in 1917. This was the event that brought the war home to Canada and the deaths that followed were a result from this major event. Despite the Great War resulting in many losses, Canada found pride in their success in the Vimy, Passchendaele and 2nd Ypres battles. These battles were only successful because of the persistence and perseverance of the Canadian Military.
