In the brink of World War ii. The two major cities in japan were bombed by the United States. These two cities were as known as Nagasaki, Hiroshima. After the U.S bombing 67 cities, the Japanese government still refused to negotiate a deal to end the war, instead they continued to fight to the last. Which left the United States, President Harry s. Truman with no option but to drop an atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The bombing left an incredible amount of permanent damage, and devastating damage mankind has never seen before. Mary Jo Salters uses 2 flash backs and pictures to show the recovery after the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. It was the start of the Western influence in their country. One example, the author Mary Jo Salters explains the countless sunny coffee shops, how they are selling pancake sandwiches, and a pizza someone tops, and she explained the changes in food from western influence as ‘’Mutations of cuisine behind the glass’’ she used the word mutations to explain the change between Japanese food to American food which was very strange, and even to this very day japan is highly influenced over the American race due to an event that happened more than a 100 years ago. The dangers of world war ii left permanent and devastating effects due to the bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The recovery of the devastation was explained through the rebuilding of structures. The aftermath of the war was devastating towards the Japanese pride because the Americans who won the war, gained cultural influence in their county.
