English Major Research Paper Ra’d AlMustafa Imagine inhaling what you believe to be a harmless vapor, only to discover that it carries with it significant risks to your health and wellbeing. This discovery has led to a heated debate over the merits of the devices known as electronic cigarettes. With e-cigarettes advertised as being less dangerous to human health than traditional cigarettes, and as helping end smoking, e-cigarettes are associated with serious health effects and societal impacts. In this essay, I will be discussing why e-cigarettes negatively affect the health of users and others around them, have the potential of leading users to use other substances, and are financially costly to the user.

Jeffery Drope and colleagues from the American Cancer Society journal stated, “The financial costs associated with e-cigarettes can accumulate quickly, leading to significant financial strain” (Drope et al.). One of the main considerations is that users ignore a number of recurring expenses related to buying e-cigarettes, liquids, and other related items. These costs could cause problems in the long run for a person, but also their family and friends hence resulting in some financial issues. Additionally, the e-cigarettes users spend a lot of money that goes to waste in the process of purchasing e-cigarettes and items related to them. This is evident in the statement by the Cleveland Clinic, “E-cigarette users report spending hundreds of dollars annually on their habit” ("Vaping (E-Cigarettes)"). This financial burden can take a lot of their wealth to cater for and thus combining it with the inability to invest in other aspects of life such as education, health, and savings. The complete absence of electronic cigarettes on the market can also have positive effects on the financial situation of the users, which contributes to the improvement of economic
