Just recently, the murder of a 22-year-old girl occurred on her college campus, the murderer being an undocumented Venezuelan immigrant. With this crime, plus many others arising in news articles, it is hard for people not to speculate that migrants have a heavy hand in our crime, but they are wrong. Recent studies by economist Ran Abramitzky show that since the 1960s, immigrants have been less likely to be arrested by 60%. There are multiple reasons why they commit fewer crimes, one of the most believed theories being that they do not want to mess up their new life. It is no secret that immigrants move here to gain a better life for their families, and committing crimes would hinder that. Our country is very split on how to feel about these new immigration laws, but studies show that 39% of Americans do not believe that the new immigration laws have caused an influx in crime. Meanwhile, 42% of Americans believe that the border is not regulated enough, and is causing problems. It is heavily debated, and there are facts to show both sides. Social Economics Within
