In the website "Passive Transport." it states, “the plasma membrane allows certain substances to get in and to get out of a cell, it also helps prevents some harmful materials from getting into the cell and some of the essential materials from leaving.” The concentration gradient of a molecule provides a force from high to low concentration, it would pull the molecule across the membrane. This process is called facilitated diffusion because the membrane protein facilitates the natural diffusion tendency of the molecule by making a safe passage across the hydrophobic region of the lipid bilayer. Many sugars and amino acids get transported from the gut into the cell lining of the gut through this method. The two transport methods are called Active and Passive, these are both very important because they do different things for the cell. They contain different processes for certain things. Both transport methods are used for different purposes, so they are both
