In the year 1894 Kate Chopin published a story called The Story of An Hour in which, through the main character Mrs. Mallard, Chopin portrays the message of death bringing about new life and newfound freedom in a woman who goes from representing the shackles put on women controlled by their husbands at that time to blossoming into a free woman by the breaking of the shackles learning her life is now hers to control and hers alone. In the story Mrs. Mallard Is presented with the news that her husband has been in a terrible accident and has died, as Mrs. Mallard goes to her room alone to process this news we see her take a long needed journey of self-discovery.
