Connor Henry Professor Dietrich English 9 Rough Draft 10 April 2024 Putting a stop to gun restriction laws There are 6.06 million Americans who have either purchased a firearm or own a firearm in the United States as of 2023. Some of those people use them for fun, some for self-defense. Most of the firearm holders in the US are good people, who just want to protect themselves and their families. Getting rid of the right to bear arms would cause chaos in the criminal field. Gun control laws in America should be stopped because they’re unconstitutional, they don’t reduce gun crime, and they criminalize law-abiding gun owners in America. It can go in many different directions. On the other hand, if the person had a gun, the attack would end very quickly. Taking the right to bear arms away because a few people don’t like them. That’s outrageous. Therefore, gun control laws are unconstitutional because the government is attempting to take away our right to bear arms, and these laws need to be halted as soon as possible. Gun control laws don’t reduce crime like people think they do. Many people believe that gun control laws prevent hundreds of deaths per year, but studies show they do nothing. In an article by John Stossel, he states, “Guns are dangerous”. But myths are dangerous, too. Myths about guns are very dangerous because they lead to bad laws. And bad laws kill people. ‘Don't tell me this bill will not make a difference’ said [former] President [Bill] Clinton, who signed the Brady Bill [restricting the purchase of handguns] into law” (Stossel). As the author stated, “bad laws kill people.” With that in mind, creating a law that restricts your right to defend yourself, is horrible.
