The hubble telescope was named after a scientist named Edwin Hubble. Edwin hubble was one of the most outstanding scientist of the 20th century because of his discoveries of the expanding universe and the existence of galaxies beyond the Milky Way. Even though, Edwin Hubble wasn’t apart of the coming of the Hubble telescope it was named after him because of his great contributions to astronomy. …show more content…
The idea was considered because telescopes from the ground can have many difficulties analyzing the night sky. For example, telescopes from the ground have a hard time getting a sharp picture because of atmospheric turbulence and Earth's atmosphere absorbing infrared and ultraviolet light. Thus, the way around these problems was to go above the atmosphere. The idea was finally put into progress in 1977 when the building of the telescope began. The launch of the telescope was planned to be in 1985, but hubble's primary mirror had been ground incorrectly, delaying the launch until 1990. The telescope was built to absorb Infrared, visible and ultraviolet light with two aluminum coated glass mirrors that reflect the light collected to make a image. The mirrors have a diameter of 94.5 inches, which is very small compared to most
