The human body is complex in its structure and function. It is composed of cells and organized into tissues, organs and organ systems. To know better the body structure and its function we need anatomy and physiology. Anatomy is the study of body structure and physiology is the study of the function of the body’s organs. To learn more about the structure and organs of the body and be able to see it, we dissected a pig. There’s a number of similarities between the human body and pigs when we talk about the anatomy and physiology of both. Both, the humans and pigs have the same organ systems and function. That’s the reason why we dissected it. The different systems that we study are integumentary, skeletal, muscular, lymphatic, respiratory, …show more content…
The organs that we removed from the pig as part of this system were the tongue, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and liver. The tongue also know as a sense organ; organ of taste, it mixes food in the mouth and hold it between the teeth. The stomach secretes acid and enzymes; mixes food with secretions to begin enzymatic digestion of proteins and moves food into the small intestine. The small intestine mixes food with bile and pancreatic juice; final enzymatic breakdown of food molecules; main site of nutrient absorption. It is divided as duodenum (beginning), jejunum (middle), and ileum (last, directly attached to the large intestine). The large intestine absorbs water and electrolytes to form feces. It is divided as cecum (beginning), ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum. The liver produces bile, which emulsifies fat. Then we found the reproductive …show more content…
The organs that we removed from the pig as part of this system were the ovaries. The ovaries are considered the primary female sex organs because they produce the female sex cells and hormones. Then we got the kidneys. The urinary system removes waste products from the blood and regulates blood pH, ion balance, and water balance. The organs that we removed from the pig as part of this system were the kidneys. The kidneys remove metabolic waste products from the blood. Then we got the lungs.
The respiratory system exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide between the blood and air and regulates blood pH. The organs that we removed from the pig as part of this system were the lungs. The lungs help in taking of oxygen-rich air from the atmosphere into the body and give out carbon dioxide. Then we found the
