Eleanor Roosevelt was also involved in many humanitarian causes. Everybody was affected by the war, so Eleanor put the white house on the same food and gas regulation system as the rest of the country. Americans were asked to conserve on everything because of supply and demand problems. Rationing was made to avoid public anger with shortages on food, gas and clothing (www.u-s-history.com/pages/h1674.html). Eleanor also made radio appearances to collect donations for the red cross foundation (www.firstladies.org/biographies/firstladies.aspx?biography=33). She also pushed legislatures to pass the child refugee bill (www.gwu.edu/~erpapers/teachinger/q-and-a/q21.cfm), and she tried to convince Franklin D. Roosevelt that rescuing Jews was a priority
