Finding a Cure
Huntington disease is a rare disease that many people do not commonly hear of. It is inherited and causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells within the brain. The disease is caused by defectiveness in a single chromosome. It impacts the way one thinks and moves. It is a disease that shows signs in one’s younger years but progresses as he or she gets older. It is diagnosed through a physical exam of questions and hands on test. The symptoms and progression vary as to when the disease is diagnosed. According to the mayo clinic, “medications are available to help manage the symptoms, but treatments can’t prevent the physical, mental and behavioral decline associated with the condition” (“Diseases and Conditions”).
