Journal #9 The excerpt from Revolution in the head regarding I Am The Walrus was a short, but interesting read. It started out with the discussion Brian Epstein dying by overdosing on prescription drugs, which people though would cause problems within the band from that point on. Not only did the Beatles break this theory of break up, but rather they went on to create one of the most innovative song, I Am The Walrus. The article also discusses a short relation to Mick Jagger and the rolling stones, mainly related to the drug usages. The main topic of the article is the way John was capable of producing a “protest-song” in the wake of their producer’s death. The article will talk about the way John’s lyrics took shape for the song, either it be from an LSD trip or from a schoolboys letter. The creation of I Am The Walrus allowed the Beatles audience to see that they would survive even the harshest conditions. “Lennon acquiescing despite seeing with his usual withering clarity that, without Epstein, The Beatles would soon fall apart,” is the quote that described Lennon’s pessimistic view of the bands fate after the death of Epstein (233). Obviously, this negative connotation was proven wrong as the Beatles still went on to create great music after Epstein’s death with really showed the Beatles weren’t reliant on some producer creating their music. Also, as I mentioned before this song was created about a year after they stopped touring, so this gave the audience confidence that although they stopped touring we can expect to still obtain quality music from them.
