My grandma once told me “Be aware of the past so you don’t repeat it.” That’s why kids should learn history even if it’s disturbing and gruesome. After reading “I Remember Night: Remembering Elie Wiesel” I learned how the author of this passage, Clemintine Wamariya, was able to find her activist voice and stand up against hate.

The only way we can learn about the past is to read books or excerpts from that time period. Books like “Night” help us know and understand the past, which can be good or bad. Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, wrote “Night” to talk about the madness of one man’s hatred and to prevent future genocides.

If the past is dangerous or bad, the reader could do things later on that are not right. That happened in Rwanda to
