If you are not certified, take the necessary state tests to become a Registered Dental Assistant. Achieving your certification will make you and your resume stand out from others who have not achieved the same professionalism. Some employers prefer to hire dental assistants who plan to go higher in the profession. Even if you change your mind later, you will already have your foot in the door.
Search for Open-minded Employers
Some employers will give the right person on the job training. Go into the interview being honest about your background and training. Ask about their procedures, policies, and if they do on the job training. Let the prospective employer see your determination and motivation. Speak well and knowledgeable of the dental practice and sell your skills. Remember, if a dental office has advertised for a dental assistant job more than once, they might be more flexible and open-minded about giving on the job training.
Stay Upbeat and Determined
Don't give up! There might be quite a few door slams in your face and no's to your application. Stay positive, determined, and motivated to get the job deserved. Remember, you didn't work hard and make sacrifices to come up empty-handed. Take something away from each interview and implement it into the presentation of yourself the next time.
