As previously mentioned, the purpose of the IC Model is to provide faculty a comprehensive overview of IPC strategies, which can be incorporated into programs to engage staff in safe work practices and to reduce patient risks of acquiring HAIs. Upon completion of the two-day educational activity, faculty will be able to:
• In 500 words or less, articulate the links in the COI.
• Describe how pathogenic microorganisms can be spread in healthcare settings.
• Explain four strategies to break the COI in healthcare settings.
• Explain four strategies to reduce patient risks for infections.
• Differentiate between standard precautions and transmission-based precautions (i.e., contact, droplet, and airborne).
• Assess clinical scenarios that necessitate staff use of PPE to prevent exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials (OPIMs).
• Develop clinical scenarios for staff to engage in safe work practices
• Return demonstrate how to correctly don and doff PPE.
• Summarize PEM procedures for staff exposed to blood and/or OPIMs.

Despite the fact that faculty may possess a basic understanding of IPC strategies (e.g., hand hygiene) and provide staff educational in-services, HAIs remains a significant (i.e., number one) threat to the health and well-being of patients worldwide (Wyer et al.,
