I walked into elementary school everyday with all of my materials in my backpack and a brain ready to start learning. I frequently sat down in my chair confused on today's lesson. I would stay after school hours to get help from my teacher and go home feeling much better than I did earlier that day. Starting in elementary school, I had an IEP which described the goals that the teachers set for me during the school year, as well as any special support needed to help achieve these goals. For example, when the class was reading books, I was with my teacher and two other students reading the same book more slowly to help me better understand the material. A determined mind, would give me the results I was looking for. When the math homework was only supposed to be 30 minutes, I was the student who would take an hour to make sure I nailed the material. When the lesson was confusing, I was the student to seek help from a teacher. I worked hard everyday and eventually the school agreed that I had grown out of my IEP. I no longer needed extra help with my work. I was the student I said I was going to be. With all of my hard work I was a straight A student and was pleased with these results.
Time was going fast and I was now a lost freshman in High school. Courses were becoming more rigorous and school activities were becoming more intense. A variety of new things were jumping at me, how was I going to succeed in school? As time went by, balancing became easier. I would go to the learning center during my lunch period to get help with confusing material, go to my after school sport, and then come home and do homework for the majority of the night.Things were coming into play and balancing was easy by the time sophomore year came
