Aiden Troche Mrs. Nicole Yuen Period 6 14 March 2024 Immigrant Letter Home Dear Family, I can't explain how much I miss you, I just wish I could get out of this plantation and be with you. However, as of right now, I feel like I am trapped here, unable to escape from this miserable plantation. My sanity is slowly getting eaten away from the inside bit by bit from working tirelessly every day, only getting a single day off in the week. It is nothing like what I remember back in China. Over here, the four seasons are replaced with hot weather and mountains seem to surround you from every single direction. They even have different types of food here like poi and lau lau. I was informed by a single Japanese person who looked like they were seeking friends, they said that they have a sport named “sumo wrestling,” where he described how two people become half-naked and try to take their opponent out of the ring. He also said they had a special kind of food named musubi, a ball made from a combination of rice and nori. I have some concerns about my future. I don’t intend to work as a plantation worker as different job opportunities make more money than a plantation worker. I do have some hopes for myself in the future, I plan to save enough money and leave this grieving place and move off to somewhere in China again. Maybe one day in the future, I could become a doctor, or maybe a principal at a Chinese language school because I want to teach people our language. I could live with my friend, Gang Wang. I hope that I can see you very soon! I have brought a photo of our family with me. I've never forgotten what your face looks like, after all, it's been 5 years.
