Many different collisions happen in softball, the bat hits the ball, the player catches the ball, and players run into each other on the field. These types of collisions can be separated into two types, elastic and inelastic. When the ball hits the bat and zooms off quickly in a different direction, that’s an elastic collision. Its like when you bounce a ball off a wall and it comes back almost as fast. The ball and the bat don’t get stuck together and not much energy is lost. Inelastic collisions are different, when a ball hits the ground after being thrown, the ball loses some of its energy and it doesn’t bounce back up like it does in an elastic collision. It ends up just hitting the ground and stays there. Like when you drop a heavy object
