In the movie The Help, a movie about the racism in the South during the civil rights movement, we see the main characters doing what they believe is right (The Help). The main characters must do what they believe even though they face the risk of danger and even death, and it ends up with a relatively happy ending (The Help). This shows that integrity is a value in today’s culture, because the characters are being looked up to. Books are another way that integrity is seen. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird has many characters that value and show integrity. Doing what is right even though it’s not popular is seen throughout the book, as well as not listening too much to what other people say (Lee). The book shows people staying true to themselves, and because of that, they show integrity. There are also real life examples of integrity, seen in the news. A six-year-old boy, named Jaden, went on a ‘smile mission’ after both his parents died (Hartman). Jaden and his aunt, who became his guardian after the death of his parents, buy little toys and trinkets like necklaces to give to random strangers on the street (Hartman). His goal is to make people smile, which he does every time he gives someone a gift (Hartman). Jaden shows integrity because he stays true to what he wants. For example, some muslim women decide to wear hijab, like headscarves or burqas, to show faith and devotion to God. To some who wear hijab, it’s a matter of integrity. Staying honest to who they are and being modest are some reasons a women might wear hijab, and so they show integrity in a way that others may not understand (CNN). Other religions have different reasons for head coverings. Sikhs wear turbans to “protect their grace and integrity”(SikhNet).
