The Functions of the Integumentary System are that it protects the internal tissue and organs and protects against invasion by infectious organisms. Protects the body from dehydration and sudden changes in temperature. It helps get rid of waste, stores water, and fat. It also is a receptor for touch, pressure, pain, heat, and cold. Parts of this system works with other systems in order to keep your cells, tissues, and organs working. The Integumentary system works with the Digestive system so that it absorbs more calcium to our diet. The digestive system also has dietary fats and oils that make protective oils that help the skin and hair. The circulatory system and capillaries helps by taking in medication through the skin, like patches. The …show more content…
The Integumentary system protects your internal organs, tissue, cells, all the organic things inside your body. It protects you from infectious organisms. Vitamin D is absorbed by your skin, melanocytes protect us from radiological damage, and Langerhans cells are dendritic cells of your skin and mucosa, they contain large granules. The skin also protects your from starving and being malnurtured. It is made up of Keratin, a tough protein, and tough skin cells that protect internal parts from cuts, scratches, bruises, and other damage. With how tough our skin is our internal structures are protected from chemicals and natural irritants, without our skin those things could go into our internal structures. The skin is waterproof also and that keeps molecules inside of our body, the Langerhans cells helps the immune system fight off bacteria and viruses and keep them from causing physical damage to the body. The Sebaceous glands fight off microorganisms that could be harmful to the body, they also absorb substances that keep us hydrated and more protected from bacterias. The Melanocytes make a pigment called melanin which protects the skin from radiological damage like UV rays. Fat protects you from physical blows, a backup food source, and insulates you from cold
