“Inter-professional practice in a Long-Term Care Center”
Inter-professional collaboration in health care system is crucial. According to Health Canada, “Inter-professional collaboration has been linked with improved patient safety and patient outcomes” (2010). Many different professionals working within this system and improvement of client’s condition is their main object, but inter-professional practice (IPP) has special place in nursing, because of closer professional relationship of nursing staff with clients. So, nursing leadership and its style would have an important impact on IPP which can improve the quality care and client’s outcome. According to the World Health Organization (2010), “Collaborative practice occurs when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds provide comprehensive services by working with patients, their families, caregivers and communities to deliver the highest quality of care across settings”. For example, leadership style can affect the work place satisfaction and decrease the turnover of nursing staff which is unwanted in long term care facilities that the clients want their routines. Among different types of leadership, transformational leadership practices contribute the health outcomes (Potter, 2014). As a LPN or LPN leader in long term care facility and under regular situations, I found my leadership style transformational, because it motivates me and because I cannot take a hands-off approach to the jobs that should be done.
