Introduction
Being in a relationship when love is always in the air is very enjoyable and it feels great being loved by somebody but when all the love becomes tears, pain, and sadness, that is when something is wrong and it is not a love relationship anymore. Domestic Violence occurs when a person consciously causes physical, psychological, or emotional harm to another person. This includes all acts of violence against a person within the family or intimate relationships. Most of the time the abusers are men and the victims are women. This means that both men and women are victims of Domestic Violence but the percentage of women being harmed in this kind of situations is much higher. It is hypothesized that women in the United States are more likely to be victimized by their intimate partners than by strangers. In addition, Domestic Violence is the principal cause of injuries on women in the US; this is a situation of alarming concern due to its negative effects on the victims and the people around them, especially on children, if involved. The purpose of this study is to find out more about this topic by having correct statistics, understanding the causes and effects in domestic violence and why women are more likely to experience violence by an intimate, being aware of the legal consequences for the perpetrators,because domestic violence is crime in the US and there are laws that protect and offer resources to the victims and at the same time punish the abusers.
