Rich with Friends Versus Rich with Money Today you hear the sounds of exchanging money at a restaurant, retail store, or anywhere you go throughout the day! The most important thing in many people’s lives is money. As we all know money can take you a long way, but can’t buy you happiness. Throughout It’s a Wonderful Life, a Christmas film directed by Frank Capra, George Bailey played by James Stewart fights battles with himself between what is important in life and what isn’t. As a banker and businessman, he is faced with money issues, taking over the business, his family, and most importantly when times got tough he wished he wasn’t alive. His father had passed away. Right then was when all his dreams of traveling the world and going to college fell out of his hands. He was forced to fill his fathers shoes because he was the big brother. His little brother was sent to war overseas; therefore, George had no choice but to take over the family business. All of George’s hopes and dreams were crushed. Leaving his hometown Bedford Falls or as he would call it “this crappy ole town”, was no longer an option. George jumped in after him. Little did he know, the man that he saw jump in the water was an angel. As George Bailey claimed he wished he had never been born, he was thrown into a whole new view of life. The angel Clarence Odbody walked with him through what life in Bedford Falls would have been like without George. George ran through the streets and throughout the whole town frantically. It took him into a whole new state of mind after he saw how different everything would have been. He found out that his brother would have drowned at a young age because George wouldn’t have been there to save him, Mary wouldn’t be married but instead a librarian, his kids weren’t alive, his mother had no idea who he was, and his now beloved town was named “Potterville”. With no one having recollection of who George Bailey was, his heat shattered into a million pieces. He finally realized that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and George begged Clarence for his life back. Thrown back into his normal life, he ran home to kiss his wife and kids. As he walked in to his house, police were behind him ready to arrest him. Soon after, people started showing up claiming they heard George was in trouble and donating money to pay off the bill. His life was truly changed and he realized that success and happiness don’t come from being rich in the bank but being rich with friends. Friends and
