Additionally, that same day they attacked pearl harbor, Japan also attacked the philippines and other small nations, and as a result of this act our president at the time, Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan but 3 days later Hitler and Mussolini declare war on the United States. Because Japan took surprise action on the philippines as well after pearl harbor the Filipino forces and the U.S had to stay in the Bataan area, which they were there for 99 days until Japan forced them to surrender on April 9, 1942. The march was made by the Japanese for the prisoners to march to the capital of Bataan to a camp called Camp O’Donnell. Many of the soldiers and prisons were beaten, …show more content…
The U.S desperately wanted to capture the island of Iwo Jima and three Japanese controlled airfields, and planned to attack at night. The battle lasted one month but was successful once again for the United states. The battle of Iwo Jima was one of the biggest marine attacks in history that left over 26 thousand people dead. A month later on February 4, the Yalta Conference was held in Crimea to discuss how post war Germany and Poland should look like and many different nations had different opinions such as the U.S and the USSR, causing many disagreements, but they still made decisions. April 30th Hitler takes his own life at his home with his wife, Eva several days after the battle of Berlin. And just a week later, Germany surrenders to the allies and the holocaust officially ends with the surrender. Ever since Hitler took office in 1933 the holocaust was one of the deadliest and torcherous things hitler continued to do for over 12 years!
