However the verdict was of no real significance given that virtually nothing was at stake. As noted in a source by the New York Times report I read of the verdict, it was a very one-sided presentation of the case that Mr. Ray was actually at fault. And a guy named Gerald Posner wrote a book called "Killing the Dream" that clearly stated that James Earl Ray was in fact the killer. The Justice Department also found the evidence presented in the civil trial King vs. Jowers to be lacking in credibility, that was either inaccurate and incomplete information.

All of this is therefore a very slender thread on which to hang the claim that the united states government was responsible for Kings assassination. Jowers (who did not even testify) was
