Kennedy was murdered in front of the public’s view. Kennedy was planning his strategies to be reelected as president again. He had flown across the country improving the United States and Soviet Union relations and received a generally favourable public response. The car turned off Main Street at Dealey Plaza and as it past the building where Oswald worked, gunfire suddenly reverberated in the plaza. Bullets struck the president’s neck and head and he slumped over towards Mrs.Kennedy. The Governor was hit as well. The car sped off to Parkland Memorial Hospital just a few minutes away from the scene but little could still be done for the president’s injuries. At 1pm, the president was pronounced dead by the catholic priest. Although the Governor was seriously wounded he would recover. The president’s body was brought to Love Field and placed on Air Force One. Lynn B. Johnson took the oath of office in replace of Kennedy. The news shocked the nation and many people wept openly in public. Many gathered in public places to watch the TV coverage. Traffic in some areas even came to a halt as the word spread around. Schools also dismissed their students early to mourn the death of their president.
