The reason black people resided was due to the hope of acquiring freedom from the oppression of Jim Crow and also to gain education/economic opportunities. Although, Black-Americans left the south, they still faced injustice/prejudice. So the migration didn’t give Black-Americans much justice, besides helping a bit with economic opportunities. And even with the economic opportunities the opportunities Black-Americans were given were inferior compared to those given to White-Americans. During this period, Black-Americans were shown to be inferior to White people. Which is shown through a popular case during the Jim Crow Era, known as the Plessy v. Ferguson case. In this case, a man named Plessy, who was of light complexion and considered black, sat in a car that was reserved for white passengers in Louisiana, and refused to move to the black car. He was later arrested due to the fact it went against the Separate Car Act. The court would ignore the direct purpose of the Separate Car Act, in which it was used to show the inferiority of Black Americans. The reason I included this case was because it shows the mistreatment and racism that was targeted at Black Americans. Another example was that during this time period there was a clear separation between white and black services/facilities.
