Jim Crow laws created and governed a racially segregated society in the South by doing a number of things. One of the things that happened was White legislators passing a series of laws that would separate White and African American people in numerous public places like schools, parks, cemeteries, theaters and restaurants. Another thing that created a racially segregated society was laws being established that would prohibit African Americans from being a part of the election process. The government was able to do this by enacting poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses.
