Jimmy Carter attended Plains High School from 1930 to 1941.During this time period the great depression set in, causing him to help out more with his family. (“Jimmy Carter Biography”, n.d.). The Carter’s needed help with the peanut farm the owned. Soon after Jimmy left school, his family decided to send him back to school, When he came back, he played on the basketball team. This helped with some leadership skills. After he graduated from High School he applied for the Naval Academy. The Naval Academy is a great honor to attend. (“Jimmy Carter Biography”, n.d.). The first time he applied he was not accepted. The reason why he was not accepted was because he needed one more math credit that he could not get in high school. Carter campaigned against General R. Ford, which was apart of republican party. when election time came around, Ford had 241 votes while, Carter had 297 votes.
