John Gacy had a rough and abusive childhood growing up with his sisters, Karen and Joanne. Their father was an alcoholic, who beat Gacy and his sisters with a razor strap, and who also abused their mother. Gacy began getting bullied at school due to a heart condition that he struggled with his entire life. This condition prevented him from being able to interact with other children on the playground. He also managed three Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants owned by his Father-in-law. In 1968 he was convicted of sodomy and sentenced to ten years in prison in Iowa. He was given parole with twelve months probation after only serving a year and a half of his ten-year sentence.
