There is a difference between critical thinking and just thinking. One can simply think about a person thing or place but when we are critically thinking, that involves a very detailed skill that analyzes all aspects of the subject. With critical thinking you ask yourself questions and are able to define in details what the problem or subject is and if it requires a solution and how it can effect today, tomorrow or even how it affected the past. Critical thinking can be used in everyday life because it can alleviate a lot of anxiety and stress that comes with how we deal with normal life issues. We know that we process our problems when they arise but when we become critical thinkers, we begin to ask critical questions to those problems and make the best decisions for a solution. …show more content…
One way is to understand that our beliefs shape the way we think and that sometimes those beliefs may cloud our thinking when it comes to problem solving or decision making. Instead, we need to understand that even though those are our personal beliefs, they can still be barriers to critical thinking and they can have a negative influence on our decisions. In order to overcome these barriers, we just need to tackle one problem at a time and realize that making snap decisions that are emotionally based will not resolve the situation.
Police officers use their critical thinking skills daily and they vary from every officer. Some officers like to use their common sense when trying to make a critical decision and that is okay depending on the situation. As a police officer, they have to be able to identify any risks that are associated with any situation before they make a final decision. Once an officer identifies these risks, if any, they then would need to think about how those risks can bring about the best outcomes for whatever situation they are in by using their best
