An Ethic Case: Juvenile Delinquents Around the world, there is an endless discussion about juvenile delinquents. Nowadays, there is a dissent whether they should be treated as adults or not. Some people believe that juvenile offenders should be considered as adults but as history thought us punishing juvenile delinquents as adults may have catastrophic consequences. Thus, juvenile offenders should not be punished as adults. Some people assert that juvenile offenders should be punished otherwise they may commit more serious crimes in the future due to their experience in life and lack of knowing what is right and what is wrong. This point has some merits on the surface, but juvenile delinquents are open to learning new things than adults. …show more content…
However, transferring children into adult courts actually increases the crime rate. "Contemporary criminological research indicates that the best way to prevent juvenile reoffending is to keep young people out of custody and away from institutions which foster recidivism and secondary deviation"(as cited in Carrington & Pereira, 2009, p.29). Under this ideology, we may also claim that punishment is a failed strategy and have a counterproductive effect on juveniles. Some researchers indicate that every year almost a huge amount of juvenile offenders are imprisoned as a result of false accusation in juvenile court. Thinking the fact that children are our future, we destroy their future with our own hands. The catastrophic consequences of unfair judgments are influencing all of the mankind. According to some researchers, every year lots of juvenile offenders get abused sexually, physically, and emotionally in prison. If this is the result of the unfair criminal statute and unresponsible prison administration then we should make a decision. Rearranging the administration of prison and the criminal statute or not punishing juveniles with compelling prison
