Even though it would be safer for other children if the child who committed the crime be tried as an adult, but it is not safe for the child who committed the crime. They are five times more likely to get assaulted, twice as likely to be beaten by staff and 8 times as likely to commit suicide if they are tried as adults.
Children who commit violent crimes should not be tried as adults. Children are more susceptible to negative behavior than adults are. Children don't have the intellectual or moral capacity to understand the consequences of their actions and they lack the same capacity to be tried as an adult. If rehabilitation is the only goal for teenagers who are tried and sentenced as adults, then prison is not the answer. There should be a different place for children who commit violent crimes. Prison is too violent and the necessary programs that can contribute to young children and teenagers rehabilitation are underfunded.
