Having knee surgery to repair my ACL was the most nerve racking but rewarding experience that I have gone through. The steps before seemed to be nerve racking in the situations such as the x-rays, MRI’s, but the most stressful of them all was the day of surgery. It seemed so tedious setting up appointment to appointment and having to wait days in between for the surgery date. This injury never really caused me pain until after surgery. When I tore my ACL, all I knew was that I popped something inside my knee. When I went to my local Orthopedist. He sat me down on an exam table. He took my knee and bent it from side to side and up and down trying to find any looseness with in my knee ligaments. He then took my knee and held my foot flat against the table. I wasn’t allowed to eat anything the night before the surgery, so I was very hungry when I woke up. I got in the car at 5:00 am. It was still dark out when I got in the car. When I walked outside the war summer air hit me and I knew that I would be missing this feeling fo a while. My surgery was going to be performed at the New England Baptist in Dedham, I had a long ride ahead of myself. When I got to the hospital I signed in at the check in counter and I signed a whole lot of paper work. After the mountain of paper work was finished I sat down next to my Mom and Dad and waited. I remember sitting there thinking to myself “I could die on the operating table.” Every possible thing that could go wrong was going through my head at that moment. Then the thought of being able to play lacrosse came over me and I just calmed down. I knew that if I could push through this that I could get through anything.
