Kwanzaa is pan-Africanist which is, a worldwide event to movement to encourage and strengthen the people of African descent.Dr. Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 .
Kwanzaa is a Swahili word and it comes from Matunda ya Kwanza meaning first fruit to harvest.
Also, Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26 to January 1 , which is seven days. Each day represents something important to build up the people that celebrate it. Kwanzaa is used to inform African Americans about their culture, heritage, and should be celebrated by Africans Americans. Day one is known as Kuumba which means creativity, next we have Umoja or unity, next we have Kujichagulia meaning self determination . Day four is called Ujima, or collective work and responsibility. In addition to the creation of Kwanzaa it was created to help African Americans reconnect with their historical heritage and African culture. Many African Americans tend to forget their roots and where they came from. This holiday helps them get in touch with history and why it is important to celebrate it. Families decorate their household with objects, colorful art, Kente cloth and fresh fruits. Celebrations include drums of African music, African pledge and the principles of blackness. African Americans should celebrate Kwanzaa to learn more about their history.Moreover, African Americans should celebrate kwanzaa to get to know their heritage better. The African American community tends to forget their roots or where they came from. Kwanzaa is a great way to learn about the history of their family and customs they had. Also, celebrating Kwanzaa teaches them discipline and the basic principles to live by so that their lives are more peaceful. African Americans should also want to celebrate Kwanzaa as a way to celebrate their ancestors and the things they went through so that their future families can live
