Leadership is an important part of my life and has shaped how I have lived my life. I have spent at least the past five years of my life trying to improve my leadership skills, working my way to Eagle. I worked, and earned, the rank of Eagle Scout, which is an award that requires a great display of leadership to earn. To earn Eagle, I had to design and carry out a project to better my community. I learned not only from scouting, but also at school and home. My parents taught me how to listen to others. Listening is an important characteristic of many strong leaders. If a leader does not know what they need to do, they will not be very effective as a leader. I also learned to lead in school. In school I learned leadership by listening to teachers and interacting with other students. These social interactions helped me learn to lead among others my same age. I learned how others my age act and think. One of the facets of leadership is conveying information. It is hard for people to accomplish what they need to if the leader cannot convey the information they need to complete their task. Knowing how others think helps a leader communicate effectively. Scouting polished the leadership skills I learned from my parents and in school. Scouting helped me lead when things do not work properly.
