My formal leadership experience was that of a Vice Principal in an elementary school. The customary duties of maintaining the safety and security of the building(s), developing and monitoring the school’s non-salary and salary accounts, creating instructional schedules, being the assigned lunchroom supervisor, supervising arrival and dismissal procedures, meeting with parents and students, completing end of the year school reports, and performing informal and formal teacher observations while working with the school’s principal.
My informal leadership experience was that of a professional development trainer for all building level personnel. As the school assigned Technology Coordinator, I was responsible for training staff to use the tools of technology improve academic outcomes for all students and to make the jobs of all support personnel in the building more efficient with technology. I maintained the building’s technology inventory, purchased equipment, developed weekly training sessions to accommodate the needs of all participants, developed a budget and maintained all of the school’s non-salary accounts and met with the district’s business administrator to finalize the yearly budgets, and created submitted board items. My vision for growth and development is unwavering as it relates to my particular leadership style. I expect individuals that function in the roles that they occupy in the school and central administration to efficiently and effectively deliver what they are contractually paid to do. Floundering work duties is unacceptable and is not tolerated, especially if corrective opportunities for growth and development have offered. I expect outcomes that exceed the proficient status as a leader and will be, and have been, unyielding about it as a Vice Principal or informal building
