Lewis and Clark Journey

I have just arrived home from a long journey that lasted from May 1804 to now, September 1806. The Corps of Discovery was a fact finding mission across the newly purchased Louisiana Territory, led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Our now president, Thomas Jefferson, was the man who sent us 59 men and 1 dog to find a water route across North America from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean called the Northwest passage. While on our mission Jefferson asked us to make good relationships with the Native Americans and let them know that we now own and are in control of the land they live on. Jefferson also told us to collect as much information as we could about all the new plants, animals, and landscapes

That little squirrel like looking creature popped right out of his burrow, sitting on his haunches, he whistled and hurried back down into the ground. We dug and dug for him in the ground while he was going through his tunnels from one hole to the other. When we finally found that Prairie Dog we captured him and shipped him off to Mr. Jefferson to show him our great find. That little animal survived the whole way, unlike most animals who would usually die when we sent them on the long journey across North America. We met Sacagawea during our encounter with the Hidatsa-Mandan tribe, in November 1804. The Hidatsa-Mandan tribe had kidnapped her when she was just 12 years old from her tribe, the Shoshone Indians. Lewis and Clark noticed that Sacagawea, who was 6 months pregnant, could be a very big help to our expedition with all of the great skills she had. Sacagawea spoke two languages, which was a big help for us in communicating to other tribes to make peace and trade. We encountered the Shoshone tribe, Sacagawea’s old tribe, and Sacagawea as able to communicate for us, so we could buy their horses to cross the Rocky Mountains. She was very good at finding plants with edible food, so we always had things to eat. One day our boat containing important documents and supplies tipped in the river and Sacagawea jumped right into the water saving many of our items, which was a huge help to us because we could have lost many important things but thankfully she saved as much as she could. Sacagawea did many other tremendous things for our tribe like helping navigate some of the trip and helping us successfully complete the expedition, which was our main
